George Campbell (Aberdeen, 1719-1796) was a minister of the Church of Scotland, Professor of Divintiy and Principal of the Marischal College. Friend and colleague of Thomas Reid, the father of the Scottish Common Sense Philosophy, he was a founding member of the Aberdeen Philosophical Society, where he shared his philosophical ideas with scholars like Alexander Gerard, James Beattie and Reid himself. Among his works, The Philosophy of Rhetoric, first published in 1776 and since then reprinted on numerous occasions, and the English translation of The Four Gospels (1789).
